          The Center's mission is to bring participants to both an enrichment of their religious faith by way of the high arts and to a deeper experience of the high arts as a source of spiritual wisdom and joy.  This mission hinges on dialogue among participants and knowledgeable leaders, dialogue which focuses on the interface of religious faith and the high arts.  In order to fulfill this mission, the Center aims:

  •  to provide opportunities to explore the relationship between faith and the arts;

  •  to engage the arts in order to challenge faith in a manner that will nourish faith;

  •  to provide a forum for discussion of particular works of art and to gain appreciation of certain works of art;

  •  to raise the arts to a higher level in the corporate life of religious groups;

  •  to understand artists, to satisfy our fascination with the arts, and to experience together both the truth of beauty and the beauty of truth.

Goals

          The goals will be to assist people in their struggle to keep faith and existence related in a significant way; to create and awareness that artists also struggle with life and human questions and manifest their struggles in their art; to promote the possibilities for experiencing significant art; to support the arts as significant for the human struggle with life's questions; and to foster a positive relationship between people of faith and artists.

Objectives

          The objectives will be to develop programs which provide opportunities for those who search for the bold and mysterious to engage the arts in their search; to provide opportunities for such seekers to experience the arts in a context which facilitates self-understanding and faith-understanding; to bring artists and seekers together for conversation and exchange; to act as a communication link between artists and seekers; and to develop instruments of communication which will support the Center's activities.

          In this statement, the words art and artist or artists should be understood as referring to any of the high arts - architecture, cinema, dance, drama, fine art, literature, music, photography, and sculpture.
